2008 - 2009 School Year

7th Grade Teachers

• In the fall of 2008, each middle school sent four teachers (social studies, science, math, and language arts) to the Friday Institute in Raleigh where they spent two days learning about technology tools they could implement into their classroom instruction.

• In January of 2009, all 7th grade teachers received a laptop, viewed a video of a science lesson in a 1:1 classroom, received an updated lesson plan template that made it easier to think about incorporating the technology seamlessly, received sample lesson plans written with the new template, and began to plan 1:1 lessons in their subject area PLC groups.

• In the spring of 2009, the Instructional Technology Specialist held three staff development sessions at each of the four middle schools focusing on appropriate technology integration into the curriculum.

2008 - 2009 School Year

• In the fall of 2009, the Instructional Technology Specialist was at each middle school at least one day a week to assist with planning lessons, implementing lessons, technical difficulties, classroom management issues, and staff development. 

8th Grade Teachers  

• In the fall of 2009 all 8th grade teachers received a laptop, viewed a video of a 1:1 lesson, and began planning 1:1 lessons with their subject area PLC groups.

2010-2011 School Year

Throughout the 2010-2011 school year, all middle school (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) and high school teachers are participating in monthly staff development created in Moodle and led by the Instructional Technology Specialist.  We used content shared by The Friday Institute and LearnNC to create our Getting Started in a 1:1 Classroom  professional development modules.  All middle and high school teachers will be required to build an interactive SMART lesson and a 1:1 lesson that will be shared through Moodle. 

High School Teachers 

• In the summer of 2010, a high school group that consisted of administrators, a media coordinator, a classroom teacher, the High School Instructional Technology Specialist and the Director of Technology attended the   Leading Innovation: Implementing Effective 1:1 Learning Technology Programs! held at the Friday Institute in Raleigh.

• In August, 2010, all high school teachers received a laptop.

• In October, 2010, all middle school and high school media coordinators attended the Technology Leaders Fall Institute 2010 at the Friday Institute.

2011-2012 

• All teachers in elementary schools receive laptops.
• All ninth grade students now have laptops.
• Implementation of Haiku (Learning Management System).  Training for all middle and high school teachers and elementary media coordinators and school level trainers.
