The Stages of Professional Development have guided our professional development offerings. Teachers and administrators completed a survey for SMART Technology and Other Technologies that helped them to identify their level of technology proficiency. Teachers choose professional development offerings that are appropriate for their current stage. The goal of professional development has been to help teachers advance in their technology proficiency.
In August, 2009, Surry County Schools held its first Summer Technology Conference, "Born to Be Wired" with over 90% of Grades PK -12 teachers and administrators in attendance. A second technology conference, iLove Technology, was held in August, 2010 for all teachers, and a third conference was held in August 2011 http://teachingandlearning.wordpress.surry.k12.nc.us/.
Additional professional development opportunities have been provided at both the school and district level. School level trainers provide professional development based on the needs of their individual schools. Professional development resources were made available through the use of Technology Support Modules built in Moodle. School level trainers use the modules to deliver professional development at their schools; some technology trainers use the resources to deliver training face-to-face, others use it in a hybrid environment, while other trainers allow teachers to use the content online.
Our Technology Specialists serve our middle and high schools and provide technology professional development based on the needs at their schools.
In addition to school level professional development, some district level training is provided to help teachers integrate different technologies into their classroom instruction. Trainers utilize a variety of formats to deliver their professional development, including:
-
Face-to-Face Workshops
-
Hybrid Workshops
-
